- Feb. 1 King is jailed with more than 200 others after voting rights march in Selma, Alabama. In the picture, he leads a group of civil rights workers and Selma residents in prayer after they were arrested on charges of parading without a permit. More than 250 people were arrested as they marched to the Dallas County courthouse as part of a voter registration drive.
